Level 3 – Moderate Plus

A fair amount of endurance and a slightly more than moderate level of fitness is needed for our Level 3 rated trips. Expect to walk for between 4 and 7 hours a day, that’s somewhere between 10 and 15 kilometres. Also keep in mind that we’ll need to cover that distance at a fairly moderate pace through undulating terrain. Some days may be solely devoted to trekking through isolated wilderness, while others are dedicated to relaxation and cultural experiences. Half-day cycle tours are a regular addition to many of our trips – another somewhat challenging physical activity that allows you to see a destination in a whole new light!

What You'll See & Do

Day 1 Benvenuti a Venezia!

Welcome to Italy! As you sail into Venice on your vaporetto, or water bus, you’ll get a sneak peek at the hustle and bustle of the city’s streets (and of course, canals) before you’ve even put down your bags to rest.

In the afternoon, you’ll meet your guide and a group of strangers you’ll soon call friends, and go exploring around town together. Gondolas, shiny well-walked cobblestone streets and grinning carnival masks will greet you at every corner as your guide shares all you need to know about the city’s history, arts and its many bridges (spoiler alert, there’s over 400)!

It’s amazing we’ve gotten this far into day one before even mentioning the food… but that’s where your welcome dinner comes in! As night falls on the water, you’ll enjoy an authentic Italian dinner that will kick-start your appetite for the adventure that awaits you in the morning.

Accommodation: Hotel Commercio & Pellegrino or similar, Venice
Included: Dinner

Day 2 Olympic arrival in Cortina d’Ampezzo

As Venice wakes up and you finish your morning espresso, you’ll set off on a ride off towards the very heart of the Dolomites and your home base for the next two days the legendary town of Cortina d’Ampezzo.

The town boasts both past and upcoming Olympic fame but hosting the 2026 Olympic Games is only a small part of what makes Cortina d’Ampezzo so special. The town echoes with history, and even more so with breath-stopping views and hiking trails just waiting for you to explore.

And that’s exactly where your afternoon will take you – on a walk into the foothills of the Dolomites right before the sun goes down. We wouldn’t exactly call this a hike, it’s more of a teaser-trailer for tomorrow’s journey.

Happily tired from a day of travel and nature exploring, you’ll doze off to the ASMR-worthy sounds of Cortina and the Dolomites at night.

Accommodation: Hotel Regina or similar, Cortina d’Ampezzo
Included: Breakfast and Lunch

Day 3 Cinque Torri

Lace up your hiking boots, today is the day! As excitement fills the air, you and your Camino tribe will finally set off on your first proper hike – and it’s a really special one.

If you’re ready to be amazed by both nature and history, today’s journey to the Cinque Torri will satisfy all of your cravings.

The towering rock formation is awe-inspiring on its own and that’s before you learn all about the area’s connection to WWI. Walk through the open air museum and discover the wartime history of the Five Torri through first-hand testimonies, and have a look into the carefully preserved battle trenches.

Once your hunger for history has been sated, it’s time to deal with the real hunger. And what better way to do that than a leave-nothing-on-your-plate lunch, with stunning views over the five dolomite towers that have been the star of today’s adventure.

Accommodation: Hotel Regina or similar, Cortina d’Ampezzo
Included: Breakfast and Lunch

Day 4 Hiking Up!

Tofana di Rozes stands before you in all of its towering, rocky glory. Today it’s time for an exciting challenge, your ascent up the mountain. Pop some overnight bare-essentials in your day pack, because today where you’re going, no luggage can follow – now, that’s remote!

As you conquer the rocky trails, keep your eyes on the prize you’re summiting Mount Lagazuoi, your first Dolomite peak! Each minute of the trek will present you with the kind of views that make you wish you could be taking a picture every time you blink.

And the biggest reason for stopping in your tracks and taking so many pictures, is waiting to greet you at the top. You’re headed towards the famous (and we mean world-famous!) Rifugio Lagazuoi, the hut with the best sunset panoramas in the Dolomites, which is also your final stop for the day!

You get to take in the sunset, stargaze and go to bed with the pleasant exhaustion of a day well-spent right here at the very top of Mount Lagazuoi.

Accommodation: Rifugio Lagazuoi, Cortina d’Ampezzo
Included: Breakfast, Packed Lunch and Dinner

Day 5 Descend Towards Capanna Alpina

Your morning begins with a deep inhale of the crisp, almost too-fresh-to-be-real alpine air and your day is only about to get better from here.

The descent from Rifugio Lagazuoi takes you through the kind of dramatically beautiful landscape that may have you wondering what sort of fantasy creatures could be hiding just out of sight. Could it be fairies in the wildflowers? Or some woodland beings among the branches in the larch forests?

But even without confirmation of anything too supernatural, you’re bound to have a magical day on your way to Capanna Alpina, where you’ll rest your feet, grab a bite to eat and hop on the bus for the quick journey into the Ladin-speaking region of Alta Badia.

Accommodation: Dolomit Boutique Hotel or similar, Badia
Included: Breakfast and Lunch

Day 6 Alta Badia

Today, you get to slow down. Alta Badia welcomes you with its unique Alpine charm.

Head out on a walk through the valleys of the region where you’ll get to enjoy the peaceful quiet of small villages and farms that give you a glimpse into the lives of the Ladin people.

Not a typo! Ladin, not Latin, is the Alpine language that’s only spoken in this region and defines the identity of its native speakers. While you’re still in Italy, this region and its people have unique customs, their own history and their own language which makes visiting Alta Badia even more special.

Today’s your chance to connect with this distinctive culture – and even walk away with a few Ladin words of your own.

(We’ll start here: Bun dé means Good day!).

Accommodation: Dolomit Boutique Hotel or similar, Badia
Included: Breakfast and Lunch

Day 7 Hike Day

As you say a s’udëi (farewell) to the Alta Badia region, wave goodbye to your luggage – this time you’ll be without it for two nights – but that won’t worry you one bit, because you’re ready to continue your adventure into another day of sprawling alpine meadows and sharp limestone outcrops on your next ascent.

Take the time to practice your newly-learned Ladin words as you hike and daydream about the undoubtedly delicious meals that await you at today’s 2,300-metre peak.

Is there anything better than settling down in a remote mountain hut, knowing you’ve absolutely earned a good night’s rest? Drift off with the satisfaction of a good day’s hike and the buzzing anticipation of tomorrow’s big, exciting challenge.

Accommodation: Rifugio Genova, Trentino-Alto Adige
Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 8 – Seceda Peaks

Talk about a rewarding moment. Today you take on what’s probably the most challenging part of your journey, but it’s one that’s so, so worth it.

As you follow the ridgelines and trails up the mountain, you may find yourself gasping at each new sight that reveals itself in front of you. That’s the magic of reaching the Odle-Geisler Group: not a single moment of the hike up is anything short of show-stopping.

As exciting as it is to finally see the Peaks you’ve seen so many times on social media, you’ll realise right away that the pictures don’t do the Odle-Geisler Group justice. At all! And yet, we doubt you’ll be able to help yourself from snapping pictures, just to preserve the moment.

You’ve earned it! And just to make things even more impossible-to-photograph perfect, your summit will culminate in perfect sunset views over the mountains from the hut where you’ll rest tonight. What a pinch-me way to spend your day!

Accommodation: Rifugio Resciesa, Trentino-South Tyrol
Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 9 Journey to Bolzano

Today’s got it all: a cable car ride, a visit to a charming small town and a journey to the historic city of Bolzano.

Begin with a nice, slow breakfast at the peak, sharing the feeling of achievement with your Camino crew. Can you believe you made it up there? And then, when it’s time to say goodbye, prepare for a scenic funicular ride down to the resort valley of Val Gardena.

From there, once you’re back on solid ground, you’ll make your way to the quaint town of Ortisei for the most well-deserved celebratory lunch this side of the Odle-Geisler Peaks.

Once you’ve filled up on pizza, pasta, tiramisu and all the other wonderful stuff a genuine small Italian town menu has to offer, you’ll be ready to hit the road again, with the promise of more delicious local treats and wine on the horizon.

Accommodation: Hotel Regina or similar, Bolzano
Included: Breakfast and Lunch

Day 10 Wine O’Clock in South Tyrol

It’s time to pull out your comfiest biking shoes and hop on your bike for a trip through all the wonder South Tyrol has to offer.

We’re talking castles that look straight out of illustrated storybooks, historic villages and oh-so-many local vineyards.

The region is famous for its wine and you’ll get to discover for yourself what makes the wine so special as you stop along your bike trip to taste the best of what the local wineries have in store (or in their casks!) for you.

And because no glass of wine is complete without a tasty, light bite, you’ll pair that with samples of truly squisiti local delicacies.

Fantastico!

Accommodation: Hotel Regina or similar, Bolzano
Included: Breakfast and Lunch

Day 11 Vapolicella, Vineyards & Verona

Once you’ve gotten a taste for local fare, you’ll keep the delicious ball rolling as you leave Bolzano and head to the high-end vineyards of Vapolicella.

While no one likes to admit it, your journey is nearing its end and with that, each moment is reason to celebrate. You’ll begin here, at Vapolicella, where lunch at a boutique winery will give you both good reason and the perfect wine to raise a glass to your adventure.

And then, it’s time for the bittersweet home stretch.

You’ll arrive in fair Verona in the afternoon, with just enough time to join your local guide for a walk and collect some last-minute memories in the UNESCO-listed town before dinner.

Gather for one last incredible meal of authentic Italian cuisine as evening falls over Verona. The laughs, memories, pictures and unmatched flavours are sure to stay with you long after you’ve said arrivederci to your hiker mates.

Accommodation: Hotel Indigo or similar, Verona
Included
: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 12 Farewell, Amiche

You may wake up on your final morning and, in a moment of onset melancholy, feel as though you suddenly understand how Juliet could’ve been that heartbroken in Verona.

Hug your Camino friends goodbye, with a promise to share another adventure soon. Who knows what the trails have in store for you next!

Buon viaggio!

Included: Breakfast

Most of our trips have a tip kitty because many cultures have interesting and diverse rules when it comes to tips. We’ve found it to be the easiest way to combat over-tipping, under-tipping or having the tip fall into the wrong hands. Our goal is for guests to relax and know that the complexities of tipping are taken care of, on their behalf.

We’ll be updating this section with the tipping amount and how it’s distributed, soon.

September is a beautiful time to explore the Dolomites on foot. It brings cool, crisp air and golden tones across the landscape as summer slowly fades into autumn. The trails are quieter, and the views are often crystal clear—ideal for soaking in the dramatic scenery.

You can expect fresh mountain air, scenic trails, and the empowering company of like-minded women.

During the trek, we primarily mountain huts called rifugios.

Hotels range between 3 and 4 stars, depending on what’s available at the location.

We will share detailed luggage information for this trip soon.

This trip begins in Venice, Italy and ends in Verona, Italy. We recommend that you fly into Venice Marco Polo International Airport, as that is the closest airport.

The most convenient departure airport is either Venice Airport or Milan Bergamo Airport. Milan Malpensa Airport could be an option as well.

Arrival and departure transfers are not included in the price.

To travel from Venice Airport to the city using a vaporetto (water bus), you’ll need to take the Alilaguna service. Alilaguna offers direct connections from the airport to several key locations in Venice, including San Marco, Rialto, and Fondamenta Nuove. The journey typically takes 60 to 90 minutes, depending on your route.

You can purchase tickets at the “Public Transport” ticket office in the arrivals hall, at the ticket booths near the dock, from ticket machines, or online through the Alilaguna website.

Milan Bergamo Airport and Venice Airport are easily reachable from Verona by shuttle bus or train. The rides are frequent and the tickets are affordable. The same is true for the Milan Malpensa Airport.

The local currency is the Euro.

In the unlikely event of a health or security related incident during a trip, we’ve engaged a local partner to assist. From our experience, there is not one framework that fits all, and every incident is unique and requires a different approach. With all trips, your guides are your day-to-day support. While behind the scenes, there is an active line of communication – between your guide, the on-ground support team, and Australian Ops.
